HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/24/19631A COMMUNITY CENTER BUILDING 5050 NO IRWINDALE AVENUE IRWINDALE, CALIFORNIA SUNDAY NOVEMBER 24, 1963 4 O'CLOCK P M The City Council of the City of Irwindale met at the above place and time in a Special Meeting The Acting City Clerk presented Affidavit that pursuant to Section 54956 of the Government Code, she had conveyed Notice to all Councilmembers, the San Gabriel Valley Daily Tribune, and other necessary City personnel, and had posted said Notice in three places in the City, advising of Special Meeting Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of our Country, the meeting was opened with an invocation by Mayor Diaz e� ROLL CALL Present Councilmen Breceda, Martinez and Mayor Diaz Absent Councilmen Miranda and Sulzer Also present Acting City Manager Lee B Young and Acting City Clerk Margaret S Barbosa Also absent City Attorney Robert R Stevens OTHER MATTERS ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION The Mayor stated that the Special 53,3 PROCLAIMING A DAY OF Meeting was called for the " MOURNING FOR JOHN F Specific purpose of adopting a KENNEDY resolution proclaiming Monday, November 25, 1963, a day of mourning for John F Kennedy, president of the United States of America and the Acting City Manager thereupon presented a resolution entitled "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF IRWINDALE PROCLAIMING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 250 19632 A DAY OF MOURNING FOR JOHN F KENNEDY, LATE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and read same by title Councilman Martinez moved, seconded by Councilman Breceda that further reading of the resolution be waived Carried unanimously Councilman Breceda requested that the resolution include instructions to send a copy of same to Joseph Kennedy Councilman Martinez moved, seconded by Councilman Breceda, that said resolution be adopted as corrected Carried unanimously Resolution as adopted is No. 63-53-398 Councilman Breceda, moved, seconded by Councilman Martinez that the Chief of Police be instructed to have the officers in the Police Department show their respects to the former president by wearing arm bands on November 25, 1963 Carried unanimously There was some discussion regarding the various church services that would be held locally in honor of President Kennedy Councilman -Mayor stated that our Lady of Guadalupe Church was holding special services at 7 30 O'Clock P M , on Monday, November 25, 1963, and those councilmembers present stated that they would attend Councilman Martinez stated that the Presbyterian Church had held its service on Sunday morning ADJOURNMENT Upon motion, meeting was adjour a,4 at 4 15 O'clock P M City glerk Minut s approved at council meeting of January 6, 1964
