COMMISSION ITEMS STATUS OF Upon question from the Commission, Director DeGruccio PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT advised that the final contract would be approved in approximately one week from today. REQUEST SPRINKLER Commissioner Diaz recommended the installation of a INSTALLATION AT sprinkler system with a timer which consists of three BALL DIAMOND INFIELD sprinklers to be located on the backstop near home plate and the first and third base near dug outs. The field is always watered prior to being dragged. The existing watering method is a rotating sprinkler head which requires the presence of an employee to periodically move the location of the water hose. BANQUET ROOM WINDOW Commission recommended that the broken window on the REPAIR east side of the banquet room be repaired. PLACEMENT OF PARK SIGNS Director DeGruccio advised the Commission that placement & DESIGNATED PICNIC of park signs was pending review by members of the City AREAS Council who had questioned the precise location of the designated picnic areas. Signs will be placed upon receipt of City Manager's approval. GYMNASIUM STATUS City Engineer Carlos Alvarado responded to Commission inquiry regarding the status of the gymnasium renovation project (memo dated August 2, 1994). P & R Minutes September 7, 1994 The plans have been completed by Architect George Stoops and Associates and have included both Phase I and Phase II. In case the Commission has forgotten, Phase I consists of the balcony improvements which includes the weight room. Phase II consists of the control access lobby which includes television monitors, etc. The total estimated cost of this project is $1.1 Million. The city is awaiting to receive approval from the Los Angeles County Building Department so that we may proceed to submit plans and specs to the City Council and solicit for bids. The schedule is such that we will propose to award the project at the City Council meeting to be held September 22, or October 13, 1994. It is estimated that construction will get under way in late October or early November with a completion date of approximately ten (10) months. In conversations held with Mr. Dennis DeGruccio, we didn't want to disturb the. recreation activities during the summer, this explains the bid award date in September. The key elements are that both Phase I and II have been combined, with Phase I budgeted for last fiscal year and Phase II this fiscal year.
