The Irwindale Parks & Recreation Commission met in regular adjourned session at the above time
and place.
ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners: Theresa Chico, Paula Fraijo, Olivia
Grijalva and Chairman Diaz. Commissioner Belen Zepeda
was absent. Also present: Recreation Director Frank Barbosa
and Secretary Rosemary Ramirez.
APRIL 2, 1997 Upon motion, the minutes of May 7, 1997, were approved as
presented.

RECREATION DIRECTOR
DEPARTMENT UPDATE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION: Recreation Director
Barbosa informed the commission that the plans for the 4th of
July celebration are well on their way. All the necessary
permits have been obtained and equipment rental contacts have
been confirmed.
Director Barbosa reported the total amount received in sponsor
funds was $2,400.00. Commission members expressed their
appreciation to all those who contributed.
SWIMMING POOL: It was noted that the problems at the
swimming pool had all been taken care of and the pool will be
ready to open on June 18, 1997.
MAINTENANCE OF B -B -Q GRILLS: Director Barbosa
advised the commission that the B -B -Q grills are currently
being inspected and repaired by Park Department personnel.
DANCE INSTRUCTOR: Director Barbosa announced the
recent appointment of Carol Armijo as the Recreation
Department's Dance Instructor. As previously mentioned,
Ms. Armijo is an experienced instructor in ballet, jazz,
folklorico and tap.
BASKETBALL LEAGUE: Director Barbosa stated that the
basketball league has had little response. Director Barbosa
further stated that the league may be cancelled this season if
sufficient participation is not received. Commissioner Fraijo
suggested placing an article in the newspaper, inviting league
applicants.

VOLLEYBALL PLAY AREA Commissioner Chico asked Director Barbosa to look into the
possibility of designating an area (near the playground) for
volleyball play. It was suggested that the grass in this area be
removed and that net posts be installed into the ground.
MAINTENANCE OF BALL Commissioner Fraijo expressed concern over the maintenance
DIAMOND and condition of the ball field. Commissioner Fraijo requested
that this area be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.
