The Irwindale Parks & Recreation Commission met in regular adjourned session at the above time and place. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners: Theresa Chico, Paula Fraijo, Olivia Grijalva and Chairman Diaz. Commissioner Belen Zepeda was absent. Also present: Recreation Director Frank Barbosa and Secretary Rosemary Ramirez. JUNE 4, 1997 Minutes of June 4, 1997 were noted as pending. RECREATION DIRECTOR DEPARTMENT UPDATE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION: All plans are in order for the 4th of July Celebration and it is anticipated that this event will be a great success. With regards to the flyers prohibiting fireworks in the park area, Director Barbosa delivered flyers to all firework stand operators for distribution to the public. Recreation staff will also post flyers throughout the park on the morning of the 4th. WHIFFLE BALL & TEE BALL: Director Barbosa informed the commission that very few participants have registered for whiffle ball and tee ball. Mr. Barbosa is hopeful that the participant number will increase. DAY CAMP PARTICIPATION: Director Barbosa reported the total number of registration received for day camp is 18, a significant lower number than in previous years. Director Barbosa suspects that the $25 registration fee has caused the participation level to drop. Commissioner Fraijo recommended that in the future, a family rate be established. TINY TOT PROGRAM. Director Barbosa informed the Commission that this program has been eliminated from his budget and transferred to the Library Department. Commission requested this matter be placed on the agenda for the P & R meeting to be held in August. GYM HOURS: This budget year, in an effort to cut costs, the recreation department will reduce it hours and will be open during the following times: Monday - Thursday 12pm - 9pm Friday 12 - 7pm Saturday l lam - 4pm ADJOURNMENT Upon motion, meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m Approved as corrected at meeting held August 28, 1997.
