The Irwindale SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time and place. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Stella Breceda, Nellie Tapia, Patricia Trippy; Vice Chair Maggie Guzman; Chair David Martinez Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Jackie Delgado, Senior Citizen Coordinator; and Linda J. Kimbro, Deputy City Clerk SPONTANEOUS COMMUNICATIONS CAROLINE RODRIGUEZ Caroline Rodriguez requested that the bus windows be tinted. ROD RODRIGUEZ Rod Rodriguez expressed his opinion that the senior bus needs to have its suspension checked for damages and/or malfunctions. CONSENT CALENDAR MOTION A motion was made by Chair Martinez, seconded by Vice Chair Guzman, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion was unanimously approved. ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES MINUTES The minutes of the meeting held August 23, 2004, were approved. END OF CONSENT CALENDAR SENIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR UPDATE SENIOR CITIZEN Senior Citizen Coordinator Delgado presented the following update: COORDINATOR DELGADO 1) About 50 individuals attended the 1St Annual Grandparents Tea in September. 2) The trips to the Lobster Festival and Sam's Seafood were successful. 3) The Senior Center had two guest speakers for September. 4) All 200 tickets to the Los Angeles County Fair were sold. 5) A trip to the Los Angeles County Fair was held September 21St SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION MINUTES REGULAR MEETING COMMISSIONER ITEMS SEPTEMBER 27, 2004 PAGE 2 6) Free flu shots will be provided on October 13th to Irwindale seniors ages 50 and over. 7) A trip to Oak Glen will be held in October. 8) A Halloween costume contest will be held this October where the first 40 seniors that arrive will be awarded a free lottery ticket. 9) Grab Bag Bingo will be held this Friday. CHAIR MARTINEZ Chair Martinez concurred with Caroline Rodriguez's comment and suggested that the seniors' bus windows be tinted. ASSISTANT CITY Assistant City Manager Diaz advised that staff is looking into tinting MANAGER DIAZ the bus' windows but indicated that they may not be ready before the scheduled senior trips. CHAIR MARTINEZ Chair Martinez complained that the bus bottoms out over bumps. ASSISTANT CITY Assistant City Manager Diaz advised that the bus has been MANAGER DIAZ inspected and has been determined to be in proper working order. VICE CHAIR GUZMAN Vice Chair Guzman suggested that "disabled persons" tags be obtained for the senior vehicles. COMMISSIONER TAPIA Commissioner Tapia expressed her opinion that the trip to Sam's Seafood was great. She also suggested holding the hula dancing lessons at the Senior Center. SENIOR CITIZEN Senior Citizen Coordinator Delgado advised that if five or more COORDINATOR seniors were interested in having hula dancing lessons at the Senior DELGADO Center, she can arrange for this program to be scheduled. She also advised that the Hawaiian Luau celebration will likely be held at the Swimming Pool next year and will possibly feature a live band.
