The Irwindale SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION met in special session at the above time and
place.
ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Virginia Diaz, Erlinda Duran,
Arline Miranda (arrived at 9:04 a.m.); Vice Chair Iris Rodriguez;
Chair Maggie Guzman

CONSENT CALENDAR
Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Jackie Delgado,
Senior Citizen Coordinator; and Armando Hegdahl, Records
Technician
There were no speakers.
MOTION A motion was made by Chair Guzman, seconded by Vice Chair
Rodriguez, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion was
unanimously approved.
ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES
MINUTES
The minutes of the regular meeting held January 28, 2013, were
approved as corrected.
END OF CONSENT CALENDAR
SENIOR CITIZEN Senior Citizen Coordinator Delgado presented the following update:
COORDINATOR
UPDATE 1) A Valentine's Dance & Potluck was held February 15, where 17
residents and 35 non-residents attended.
2) A birthday luncheon was held at Guadalupe's Restaurant on
February 27.
3) A Spring Boutique and Bake Sale has been scheduled for March
27. Eight vendor tables have been sold thus far; there are plenty of
additional spaces available.
4) A trip to the Welk Resort Show & Buffet was held February 21.
Nine residents and 12 non-residents attended.
5) A trip to the Palm Springs Follies has been scheduled for March
23.
6) A fundraiser trip to Pechanga Casino has been scheduled for April
6.
7) A trip to the USS Iowa has been scheduled for April 26
8) A trip to Pala Casino has been scheduled for May 11
9) A trip to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be
scheduled soon

10) A trip to Harrah's Rincon Casino has been scheduled for August
24
11) A trip to Solvang has been scheduled for September 21
12) A trip to the Space Shuttle Endeavour Exhibition & IMAX has
been scheduled for October 25
13) A trip to Soboba Casino has been scheduled for November 8
14) A trip to Knott's Marketplace has been scheduled for December
20.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Diaz asked what could be done to get people to
DIAZ participate more in during the potlucks, to which Coordinator
Delgado advised that if people want to participate but do not want to
cook, they can purchase food and bring it in.
CHAIR GUZMAN Chair Guzman spoke highly of the Valentine's activities and thanked
all the seniors that participated in the potluck. She also thanked
Robert Lopez for his generosity and Coordinator Delgado and the
Senior Center staff for all their hard work. She said that she always
looks forward to the next event scheduled by the Center.
CITY MANAGER
QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS
ASSISTANT CITY Assistant City Manager Diaz advised that the budget process will
MANAGER DIAZ begin in mid-March. She indicated that the city is operating with a $
million deficit. Changes to the budget may be suggested by the City
Manager with input by the Commissions, though the final decision is
up to the City Council.
VICE CHAIR Vice Chair Rodriguez spoke on the need for fundraisers.
