The Irwindale SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time and place. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Virginia Diaz, Arline Miranda, Natalie Orosco; Vice Chair Maggie Guzman Absent: Chair Iris Rodriguez Also present: Eloise Beltran, Senior Center Coordinator; and Laura Nieto, Deputy City Clerk SPONTANEOUS COMMUNICATIONS There were no speakers. CONSENT CALENDAR MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Guzman, seconded by Commissioner Orosco, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion was unanimously approved; Chair Rodriguez absent. ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES MINUTES The minutes of the regular meetings held July 25, 2016, were approved. END OF CONSENT CALENDAR SENIOR CENTER Senior Center Coordinator Beltran presented the following COORDINATOR update: UPDATE 1) Nineteen seniors attended the trip to Pageant of the Masters held on August 20. 2) A trip to Pirate Adventures Dinner will be held on September 24. 3) The Walking Club will be going to Royal Oaks Park on August 25. 4) Twenty-four seniors attended the Metro on the Go bus trip to Santa Monica, which was held on August 12. She thanked Chair Rodriguez for her help and advised that the next Metro on the Go trip will be held on September 9. 5) A "Movies at the Senior Center" will be held on September 8 at 1 p.m. 6) An Ice Cream Social will be held today in celebration of National Seniors Day. 7) A Birthday Breakfast function will be held on August 26. 8) She also invited all to celebrate the Senior Center's 30th anniversary event to be held on August 30. She noted that the SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION MINUTES REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 22, 2016 PAGE 2 event includes a softball challenge with the seniors playing against city employees. 9) Upcoming events: Mexican Independence Day Dance on September 16, Bingo on September 22"d, Job Search Workshop on September 29 and October 6, and Health Fair & Flu Shots on October 5. COMMISSIONER ITEMS VICE CHAIR GUZMAN Vice Chair Guzman thanked Coordinator Beltran and the Senior Center staff for the great job they are doing. COMMISSIONER Commissioner Orosco spoke highly of the recent luau held at the OROSCO Senior Center. COMMISSIONER Commissioner Diaz thanked the Council, Recreation, and Public DIAZ Works Department for their work in holding the Music in the Park concerts, thanked the Council for extending the pool hours, and hoped that everyone can attend the Ice Cream Social. She also noted that many drivers speed on city streets and spoke on the need for extra patrol. DEPUTY CITY CLERK Deputy City Clerk Nieto advised that staff can notify the Public Works NIETO Department regarding dangerous road conditions. COMMISSIONER Commissioner Miranda stated that many visitors compliment the city MIRANDA park, thanked Police Chief Miranda for returning her call, and thanked the City of Baldwin Park for a recent waste -disposal event held there.
