ORDINANCE 223
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF IRWINDALE ADOPTING, BY
REFERENCE, THE 1968 EDITION OF THE
"LOS ANGELES COUNTY BUILDING LAWS",
CONSISTING OF (1) THE UNIFORM
BUILDING CODE, 1967 EDITION; (2)
THE UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE, 1967
EDITION; (3) THE UNIFORM PLUMBING
CODE, 1967 EDITION; AND (4) THE
ELECTRICAL CODE OF THE COUNTY OF
LOS ANGELES, AS THE BUILDING LAWS
OF THE CITY OF IRWINDALE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IRWINDALE DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Sections 8100, 8101, 8102 and 8103 of the
Irwindale Municipal Code are hereby amended to read, respectively,
as follows:
"8100. Except as hereinafter amended, the 1968
Edition of the 'Los Angeles County Building Laws',
including the Appendix thereto, consisting of the
Uniform Building Code, 1967 Edition, the Uniform
Mechanical Code, 1967 Edition; the Uniform Plumbing
Code, 1967 Edition, and the Electrical Code of the
County of Los Angeles, Except Chapters 98 and 99 of
the Uniform Building Code, be, and the same hereby
are, subject to the provisions of this Code, adopted
as the building laws of the City of Irwindale.
Three copies of said building laws, as amended,
effective July 12, 1968, are on deposit in the office
of the City Clerk and shall be at all times maintained
by said City Clerk for use and examination by the
public. Reference to section numbers and amendments
of the Irwindale Building Code are declared to be
references to the section numbers contained in said
Volume of Los Angeles County Building Laws, 1968
Edition."
"8101. Whenever any of the following names.or
terms are used in said Los Angeles County Building
Laws, 1968 Edition, or in said Ordinance No. 2225 of
the County of Los Angeles, as amended, each such name
or term shall be deemed or construed to have the
meaning, unless the context otherwise requires, as
set forth in this Section.
(a) Board of Appeals shall mean the City Council
of the City of Irwindale;
(b) Board of Supervisors shall mean the City
Council of the City of Irwindale;
(c) Building Department shall mean the Building
and Safety Division of the Department of County
Engineer;

(d) Building Official shall mean City Engineer
of the City of Irwindale;
(e) Chief Electrical Inspector shall mean the
City Engineer of the City of Irwindale except in
Section 3 of said Electrical Code;
(f) Chief Plumbing Inspector shall mean the
City Engineer of the City of Irwindale;
(g) City shall mean the City of Irwindale;
(h) County, County of Los Angeles or unincorporated
`°�" area of the County of Los Angeles, shall mean the City of
Irwindale;
(i) Health Officer shall mean the Health Officer
of the City of Irwindale;
(j) Los Angeles County Ordinance No. 1494, the
Zoning Ordinance, shall mean the Zoning Ordinance of
the City of Irwindale;
(k) Maintenance Electrician shall mean a person
holding a valid Certificate of Registration as
Maintenance Electrician issued by the County of
Los Angeles;
(1) Special Inspector shall mean a person
holding a valid Certificate of Registration issued
by the County of Los Angeles as set forth in Section
305(b) of said Los Angeles County Building Code;
(m) Unincorporated territory of the County of
Los Angeles shall mean the unincorporated territory
of the City of Irwindale;
(n) Whenever reference is made in said County
Building Laws to any ordinance of the County of Los
Angeles, said reference shall be deemed to be the
appropriate similar ordinance of the City of Irwindale."
"8102. Section 208 of said Building Code is amended
to read as follows:
Section 208.
(a) Compliance with Code. No person shall erect,
construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove,
convert, demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any building
or structure, or perform any grading in the City, or cause the
same to be done, contrary to, or in violation of any of the
provisions of this code.

(b) Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation
violating any of the provisions of this Code shall be
deemed guilty of a separate offense for each and every
day or portion thereof during which any violation of any
of the provisions of this Code is committed, continued
or permitted, and upon conviction of any such violation
such person shall be punishable by a fine of not more
than $500 or by imprisonment for not more than six months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment."
"8103. Said Building Code is amended by deleting
Section 307 therefrom."
SECTION 2. That Sections 8104, 8200, 8201, 8300 and 8301
of the Irwindale Municipal Code are hereby repealed and rescinded.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Ordinance and cause the same to be posted in the manner
prescribed by law.

introduced, adopted and passed at a regular adjourned meeting of the
City Council on the 17th day of October, 1968, by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEN: Breceda, Chico, P. Miranda and Barbosa and
Mayor Miguel Miranda.
NOES: COUNCILMEN: None
ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None.

citizen of the United States over the age of eighteen years and

On October 22, 1968, she securely and conspicuously posted at
each of the three designated public places in said City.
