ORDINANCE NO. 504
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF IRWINDALE AMENDING CHAPTER 15.04 OF THE
IRWINDALE MUNICIPAL CODE (THE CITY BUILDING CODE)
AND ESTABLISHING STANDARDS FOR SIGNS DESIGNATING
PARKING SPACES FOR DISABLED PERSONS ONLY.
The City Council of the City of Irwindale does ordain as follows:
Section I. A new Section 15.04.035 hereby is added to Chapter 15.04
of the Irwindale Municipal Code to read, in words and figures, as follows:
"15.04.035. Identification of Parking Spaces in Off-street
Parking Facilities Designated for Parking
by Disabled Persons Only.
"Each parking space reserved for disabled persons shall be identified by a
reflecterized sign permanently posted immediately adjacent to and visible from
each designated stall or space, consisting of a profile view of a wheelchair with
occupant in white on a dark blue background. The sign shall conform to R99 of
the California Department of Transportation Traffic Manual, most current edition,
or any successor standards thereto. Such sign shall be posted at a minimum
height of 80 inches from the bottom of the sign to the parking space finished
grade. Signs may also be centered on a wall at the interior end of a designated
parking space at a minimum height of 36 inches from the parking space finished
grade, ground or sidewalk. The requirements of this section shall prevail over any
inconsistent requirements contained in Title 26 of the Los Angeles County Code."
Section 2. Penalty.
It is unlawful for any person, firm, partnership or corporation to violate
any provision or fail to comply with any of the requirements of this Ordinance. Except as
otherwise provided herein, any person, firm, partnership or corporation violating any
provision of this Ordinance, or failing to comply with any of its requirements, shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine
not excepting Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or by imprisonment not exceeding six (6)
roN months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each person, firm, partnership or

cooperation violating any provision of this Ordinance or failing to comply with any of the
requirements thereof, shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each and every day,
or portion thereof, during which any violation of any of the provisions of this Ordinance
is committed, continued or permitted by such person, firm, partnership or corporation and
shall be deemed punishable therefor as provided in this Ordinance.
Section 3. Violation - Nuisance - Civil Remedies.
The violation of any of the provisions of this Ordinance constitutes a
nuisance, and may be abated by the City through civil process by means of restraining
order. preliminary or permanent injunction, or in any other manner provided by law for
the abatement of such nuisances.
Section 4. Severability.
The City Council declares that should any title, chapter, provision, section,
paragraph, sentence or word of this Ordinance be rendered or declared invalid by any
,r'"' final court action by a court of competent jurisdiction, or by reason of any preemptive
legislation, the remaining titles, chapters, provisions, sections, paragraphs, sentences and
words of this Ordinance shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published in the manner prescribed by law.
