AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IRWINDA
AMENDING IRWINDALE MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 9.116 020

AUTHORIZE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN CITY PARKS
IN CONNECTION WITH CITY SPONSORED AND SUPERVISED ENTS
WHEREAS, the City of Irwindale's Municipal Code, at Sect' 9.16.020.13
currently prohibits the possession, transportation, purchase, l gi
saving away or
consumption of alcoholic beverages in any park or public plac f the City;
WHEREAS, the City Council believes this provisio necessary to
promote the health and safety of the City's residents an isitors of the City's
parks where the use of alcoholic beverages is not co Iled or contained; and
WHEREAS, the City's Police Department confirmed that unregulated
and uncontrolled use of alcoholic beverages co 1butes to criminal activity and
other negative impa/Council
on the City; _
WHEREAS, ty Council wishe o maintain the prohibitions set forth
in Section 9.16.020ted to alcohol' everages, but provide an exemption
where the City sponcommunity r other public event and has arranged for
proper measures tool the pos ssion, transportation, purchase, sale, giving
away or consumptilcoholic verages, including but not limited to, through
the presence of IrwPolic ersonnel, limitation on the amount of alcoholic
beverages that maonsu ed, protection of minors and similar measures;
NOW, THEREFORty Council of the Irwindale does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. The uncil hereby amends Subsection 9.16.020, B. in its
entirety, to read ass:
B. To enter, be or remain in any park while in
possession of, transporting, purchasing, selling, giving
away or consuming any alcoholic beverage, as
defined in subsection (b) of Section 2 of the Alcoholic
Beverage Control Act of the state, unless explicitly
approved in advanced by the City Council, and

connection with and within the approved restrictions
of a city -sponsored public event;
WiLECTION 2. Except as expressly modified pursuant to this Ordinance, all
p isions of Section 9.16.020 shall remain unmodified and in full force and

and causNhe same to be posted in the manner provided by law.
