The Irwindale Parks & Recreation Commissi et in regular adjourned session at the above time and place. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners: Theresa Chico, Paula Fraijo, Belen Zepeda and Chairman Diaz. Commissioner` Olivia «rijalva arrived at 6:10 p.m. Also pWR Recreation Director Frank Barbosa and Secretary Rose ftnirez. APPROVAL OF MINUTES JUNE 5, 1996 It was noted that the minutes of June 5, 1996 and June 18, 1996 JUNE 18, 1996 were pending. RECREATION DIRECTOR REPORT ON 4TH OF JULY Director Barbosa was pleased to report on the overall success CELEBRATION of this event. The only significant problem was that persons were igniting fireworks within the park area. This was done in the presence of the Fire Inspector who expressed concern regarding this conduct. The Commission suggested that an ordinance be adopted to prohibit fireworks in the park. The Commission also recommended that additional staffmg of police personnel and that this ordinance be strictly enforced in the future. Secretary Ramirez was asked to follow up on this request. BICYCLE RIDING IN The Commission expressed concern with the number of bicycle PARK AREA riders that were in the park during the 4th of July celebration. The commission recommended that the ordinance prohibiting bike riding be enforced by the Police Department. SCHEDULE CHANGE Director Barbosa informed the commission that several requests GYMNASIUM HOURS for earlier gym hours have been received. Beginning July 22, 1996, the new hours (on a trail basis) will be as follows: Monday - Thursday: 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Friday: 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Saturday: 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Sunday: Closed EQUIPMENT TRAINING Director Barbosa advised the commission that use of weight CLASSES room equipment classes will be conducted sometime in the near future. P & R Minutes July 10, 1996 WEIGHT ROOM EQUIPMENT It was recommended by the commission that a twenty (20) TIME LIMITS ESTABLISHED minute time limit be established for each machine and that signs be posted accordingly. ENTRANCE POLICY Commission Fraijo questioned the entrance policy and how it AMENDMENTS - NON affects a non resident person who accompanies a child to city RESIDENT "CHAPERON" sponsored activities, i.e. dance class, arts & crafts etc. AND SPONSORED FEE After lengthy discussion, the commission approved to waive ESTABLISHED FOR the entrance fee for these types of situations however CHILDREN registration at the front desk is still required. Commissioner Zepeda recommended that a monthly fee be established for non children who fall within the sponsored category. After discussion, A motion was unanimously approved to establish a fee of $8.00 per month for sponsored children who are 15 years of age or younger. MOTION: Commissioner P. Chico CHAIRMAN DIAZ EXCUSED Chairman Diaz was excused at 6:55 p.m. COMMISSIONER ITEMS GYM FLOOR MAINTENANCE Upon question from commissioner Chico, Director Barbosa informed her that the streaks on the colored tile floor resulted from a tile cleaner that was used. The streaks are scheduled to be removed. COMPLETION OF TENNIS Commissioner Fraijo expressed satisfaction of the tennis court COURT PROJECT AND project and recommended that signs be ordered and posted in OPERATING HOURS the surrounding area. Discussion was also held regarding tennis court hours. Commission recommended that 9:00 p.m. be established as the final hour of play in the tennis court and that the timers be set accordingly. PARK RESTROOM HOURS The commission has recommended that during softball season, the park restrooms remain open until 10:00 p.m. Staff was instructed to notify the Police Department. STATUS OF TREE AND The commission requested that the tree in the play area, FOUNTAIN IN PLAY AREA & purchase of cellular phone, and removal drinking fountain in CELLULAR PHONE. play area be placed on the agenda for meeting to be held in September. ADJOURN There being no further matters before the commission, meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
