The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time
and place.
ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Carol B. Hernandez, Paula Fraijo;
Chair Dan Diaz
Absent: Commissioner Erlinda Duran, Vice Chair Belen Zepeda
Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Dan Grijalva,
Recreation Manager; Mike Rados, Public Works Manager; and
Armando Hegdahl, Records Clerk
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOTION A motion was made by Commissioner Fraijo, seconded by
Commissioner Hernandez, to approve the minutes of the meeting
held July 2, 2003. The motion was unanimously approved,
Commissioner Duran and Vice Chair Zepeda absent.
RECREATION MANAGER UPDATE
RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update:
MANAGER GRIJALVA
All programs continue as scheduled. He thanked those who
volunteered in the Summer Lunch program. He also indicated that
the 4th of July celebration went well, with only minor sound problems.
He also thanked the City Council for providing funding for the
recreational events and the Police Department for its patrol. He
added that the location used for the 4th of July celebration provided a
great view of the fireworks show.
Recreation Manager Grijalva also reported that an accelerated flag
football season will begin soon, with two games played a week
through the month of September and concluding the 15` week of
October.
PARK MASTER PLAN — STATUS (verbal)
ASSISTANT CITY Assistant City Manager Diaz advised that the City Council has
MANAGER DIAZ approved the design and specifications of the park. The City
Engineer will now handle advertising, with construction expected to
begin in October.

COMMISSIONER ITEMS
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Hernandez thanked Recreation Manager Grijalva and
HERNANDEZ the Recreation staff for their efforts in preparing for and conducting
the 4th of July celebration.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz requested the following work to be done by the Public
Works Department:
1) Tighten the backs of the bleachers by the pool.
2) Replace signs or remove rust from current signs near the
pool.
3) Repair leaning barbecue grill near Allen Drive.
4) Re -paint blue lines that mark off the picnic area.
5) Replace signs around park that have become illegible.
6) Clean picnic shelter area and remove rust from light fixtures.
PUBLIC WORKS Public Works Manager Rados advised that he has already obtained
MANAGER RADOS estimates for replacing the signs in the park.
COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Fraijo, Recreation
FRAIJO Manager Grijalva indicated that the September Fiesta will be held on
September 6th and that the band CHICO will be playing. He also
advised that the Concert in the Park series is doing great thanks in
part to funding from the Council. He added that non-profit
organizations are participating by selling items during the series and
that the Police Department has displays set up as well.
ASSISTANT CITY In response to a statement from Chair Diaz, Assistant City Manager
MANAGER DIAZ Diaz advised that the City Engineer's Office will be notified of road
work being done near EI Nido Park.

ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was
adjourned at 6:17 p.m.
