The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time
and place.

CONSENT CALENDAR
Present: Commissioners Carol Hernandez, Erlinda Duran,
Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz
Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Dan Grijalva,
Recreation Manager; Mike Rados, Public Works Manager; and
Armando Hegdahl, Records Clerk
There were no speakers.
MOTION A motion was made by Chair Diaz, seconded by Vice Chair Fraijo, to
approve the Consent Calendar. The motion was unanimously
approved.
ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES
MINUTES
The following minutes were approved:
1) Regular meeting held March 2, 2005.
RECREATION MANAGER UPDATE
RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva thanked those who attended the Grand
MANAGER GRIJALVA Opening of Jardin de Roca Park and presented the following update:
1) There are two trips scheduled for Day Camp and one trip
scheduled for the Teen Club.
2) Efforts are underway to prepare the park swimming pool for re-
opening. Staff is currently recruiting lifeguards.
3) The aerobics instructor has resigned; staff is recruiting for
another instructor.
4) The schedule for the Kickboxing class is being prepared. There
is a possibility that registrations from the Tri Community Adult
Education School will be accepted. Attendance to this class has
been consistent.
5) The Easter Egg Hunt was a great success.
6) The Grand Opening of the Jardin de Roca was a great success,
thanks largely in part to the coordination efforts of Recreation
Supervisor Zepeda.

COMMISSIONER ITEMS
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO In response to a question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Manager
Grijalva advised that there has only been one minor accident at the
Skate Park.
COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Duran, Recreation
DURAN Manager Grijalva advised that the Police Department would more
appropriately address the enforcement of park rules.
COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Zepeda, Public Works
ZEPEDA Manager Rados advised that consultants would be hired to assist in
establishing the height of the pool fence. Afterwards, contractors
would be hired to install the fence by summer.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO In response to a comment by Vice Chair Fraijo, Public Works
Manager Rados advised that the cameras at the Skate Park are not
yet operational.
COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Duran, Assistant City
DURAN Manager Diaz advised that the Police Department will continue to
issue warnings for those who violate Skate Park rules, after which
citations would be issued.
In response to a question by Commissioner Duran, Public Works
Manager Rados advised that the park is checked for graffiti every
day.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO In response to a question by Vice Chair Fraijo relating to Irwindale
Park's tennis courts, Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that a
member of the City Council had suggested converting a section of
the courts into a full size basketball court. However, the Council
decided to remand this item to the Parks & Recreation Commission
for consideration. The Commission will hear the item in the near.
future.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was
adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
