The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time and place. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Veronica S. Barbosa-Lara, Carol B. Hernandez, Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Mike Rados, Public Works Manager; Dan Grijalva, Recreation Manager; and Armando Hegdahl, Records Technician SPONTANEOUS COMMUNICATIONS There were no speakers. CONSENT CALENDAR MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by Commissioner Hernandez, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion was unanimously approved. ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES MINUTES The following minutes were approved as presented: 1) Regular meeting held September 3, 2008 RECREATION MANAGER UPDATE RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update: MANAGER GRIJALVA 1) The Teen Club recently held a car wash fundraiser for Marcos Lepe, the proceeds of which will be presented to the Lepe family during an upcoming dinner benefit. 2) The recent "Walking with Dinosaurs' trip was very successful. 3) The Recreation Department's Halloween Party will be held November 15t 4) Teams for flag football will be chosen next week. COMMISSIONER ITEMS COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Hernandez, Recreation HERNANDEZ Manager Grijalva advised that the upcoming carnival will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OCTOBER 1, 2008 REGULAR MEETING PAGE 2 VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Responding to one of Vice Chair Fraijo's questions, Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that a church baseball league utilizes the baseball field on Saturdays and a new league will play on Mondays. RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva added that flag football signups will be MANAGER GRIJALVA accepted until the draft. He indicated that there are currently 35 children enrolled, enough for four teams. COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Barbosa, Recreation BARBOSA Manager Grijalva indicated that the football teams will be playing on Tuesdays and Fridays. He added that the Cheerleading Squad will be selling various items at the carnival. CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz requested that the curb at EI Nido Park be painted so that people are prohibited from parking their vehicles there during school hours. COMMISSIONER In response to an additional question by Commissioner Barbosa, BARBOSA Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that the Recreation Guide will be mailed to the residents in the near future. Commissioner Barbosa encouraged attendance at the upcoming benefit dinner for Marcos Lepe.
