The Irwindale Parks & Recreation Commission met in regular session at the above time and place.
ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Teresa Chico, Paula Fraijo, Olivia
Grijalva, Belen Zepeda and Chairman Dan Diaz.
Also present: Recreation Director Frank Barbosa and Secretary
Rosemary Ramirez.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
JANUARY 7,1998 Minutes of December 3, 1998 were approved as corrected on page
3, paragraph 1, last sentence as follows: Commissioner Chico
recommended repainting and relocating the line a few feet back so
that it sets further back from the street.

RECREATION DIRECTOR
DIRECTOR'S REPORT CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Director Barbosa reported on the
success of the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. He estimated
that approximately 150 persons attended the festivities.
Commission members unanimously agreed that the event was
very well coordinated and would like to have the tree lighting
ceremony as an annual recreation department sponsored event.
Commission members supported Director Barbosa's suggestion to
sponsor a home Christmas decorating contest in 1998. This
matter will be discussed at a future date.
CHRISTMAS BREAKACTIVITIES: Director Barbosa reported
that all activities and trips conducted during Christmas break were
sold out. Activities included roller-skating, Knotts, Disneyland
and the movies. Ins summary, the selected excursions were
enjoyed by all that participated.
AEROBICSAND DANCE CLASS: The aerobics and dance
classes are scheduled to begin next week. Registrations are going
well for both events.
COMMISSIONER ITEMS
TREE MAINTENANCE Commissioner Chico would like to know if the dead trees within
the park area are scheduled to be removed. Commissioner Chico
also expressed concern that the branches are hanging extremely
low on the olive tree located by the restrooms near the children's
play area. Commissioner Chico requested that the branches be
cut.

GYMNASIUM Upon question from Commissioner Fraijo, Director
ATTENDANCE Barbosa informed the commission that the gymnasium attendance
is good between the hours of 6:30 — 9:30 a.m, and continues to
remain steady.
SOFTBALL LEAGUE Director Barbosa informed Commissioner Fraijo that he would
advertise the upcoming softball league in search of participants.
Commissioner Fraijo requested a staff report on registrations at
the next meeting.
SUMMER CONCERTS Commissioner Fraijo asked Director Barbosa if he
IN THE PARK would begin looking into having a summer concert series in the
park. Director Barbosa will begin contacting various cities and
music contacts.
VOLUNTEERS Chairman Diaz wished to thank the following persons who
RECOGNIZED volunteered their time to the Recreation Department Football
League: Clifford Orosco, Joseph Miranda, Michael Diaz, Jason
Hickman, Mike Rodriguez and Andrew Acosta. Director Barbosa
wished to also thank Chairman Dan Diaz for his volunteer
services as team coach during the season.

at 6:45 pm.
