RECREATION MANAGER UPDATE
RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update:
MANAGER GRIJALVA
The only other event scheduled other than the regularly scheduled
programs was the football banquet, which turned out very well with over 60
children in attendance. Basketball tryouts were recently held with about 55
children trying out and more waiting to play. He indicated that there will be
two divisions: the "A" Division will be for children ages 10-13; the "B"
Division will be for children ages 7-9. He also advised that Frontline Sports
Management Group (which manages professional European basketball
players) will give a free clinic to children on Saturday, February 8. The Arts
& Crafts class is doing very well with about 30 children in attendance
weekly. The cheerleading program is also doing well with about 15-20 girls
enrolled. He further indicated that all other programs are also working out
well and that the After School Program will begin February 17, 2003.
COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Fraijo, Recreation
FRAIJO Manager Grijalva advised that the individuals signed up for the After School
program would be formally signed in and out and that the parents would
have to pick up the children after they are excused. Also, since parents
have brought up the issue of a possible scheduling conflict with tutoring
classes, the final program schedule is still being worked out. He indicated
that the person overseeing the program is responsible for supervising the
children and would notify parents of inconsistencies in enrollees'
attendance.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz advised that parents should be instructed to call the program
supervisor to notify when their children would not be able to attend.
COMMISSIONER Commission Fraijo suggested establishing a procedure to prevent
FRAIJO children from wandering away when classes begin.
