The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time and place. ROLL CALL: SPONTANEOUS COMMUNICATIONS CONSENT CALENDAR Present: Commissioners Erlinda Duran, Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz Absent: Commissioner Carol B. Hernandez Also present: Dan Grijalva, Recreation Manager; and Armando Hegdahl, Records Technician There were no speakers. MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by Commissioner Duran, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion was unanimously approved; Commissioner Hernandez absent ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES MINUTES The following minutes were approved: 1) Special meeting held July 3, 2007. RECREATION MANAGER UPDATE RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update: MANAGER GRIJALVA 1) The 4th of July Fiesta went very well and drew a large attendance. The fireworks show was also a success. 2) Unfortunately, attendance at the Farmers' Market has been low. 3) The bands that perform at the Music in the Park series have not been changed since they are the ones that the community prefer. 4) Advertisements have been placed in the local newspaper in an effort to boost attendance at the Music in the Park and Farmers' Market events. 5) Day Camp attendance averages about 50 participants per trip. 6) Attendance at the pool has also decreased. 7) The Teen Club will be unveiling its new Teen Room on Saturday at 9:30. PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES AUGUST 1, 2007 REGULAR MEETING PAGE 2 COMMISSIONER ITEMS COMMISSIONER In response to a question by Commissioner Duran, Recreation DURAN Manager Grijalva advised that each vendor at the Farmer's Market sets his own price for his products. Commissioner Duran indicated that more trash cans are needed in the park. VICE CHAIR FRAIJO In response to several questions by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Manager Grijalva reported on an incident at the park in which police assistance was necessary, indicated that Thursday softball leagues are on hold pending payment from the teams, and indicated that the dugout areas at the park will be cleaned. CITY MANAGER QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS There were none. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 6:19 p.m. Armando Hegdahl, Records Technician
