The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time
and place.

Present: Commissioners Erlinda Duran, Marguerite S. Lopez,
Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz
Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Mike Rados,
Public Works Manager; Dan Grijalva, Recreation Manager; and
Linda Kimbro, Deputy City Clerk
There were no speakers.
MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by
Commissioner Duran, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion
was unanimously approved.
ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES

The following minutes were approved as presented:
1) Regular meeting held June 1, 2011.

MANAGER UPDATE
RECREATION
Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update:

1)
Basketball season has concluded.
2)
The banquet was held last night.
3)
Although the zumba class has ended, it will resume shortly.
4)
No applications for the art teacher position have been received
yet. Staff will try again at a later date.
5)
Staff is thinking about implementing a photography class.
6)
Staff is preparing for the upcoming summer classes.

VICE CHAIR FRAIJO In response to a question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Manager
Grijalva advised that beach trips and day camp trips will be
scheduled for the summer. He added that football season will begin
in September.
Vice Chair Fraijo asked an additional question regarding movie night,
to which Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that they will be held
during the summer.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Zepeda asked about overnight camping, to which
ZEPEDA Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that they will be held during the
summer.
RECREATION Responding to several questions relating to the pool, Recreation
MANAGER GRIJALVA Manager Grijalva provided details regarding the available swim
programs. He added that staff has received many compliments on
the instructors.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo suggested adding more swim days once the budget
is improved. She also asked about the snack bar, to which
Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that it would not be open. Vice
Chair Fraijo was also very complimentary of staff.
Vice Chair Fraijo asked about barbecue pits, to which Public Works
Manager Rados advised that nine pits are being replaced.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz thanked all volunteer coaches and requested to have a
police officer present at the next commission meeting to report on
the police department's plans for summer park patrol.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Duran thanked Deputy City Clerk Kimbro and Public
DURAN Works Manager Rados for their years of service to the City in light of
their upcoming retirements.

ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was
adjourned at 6:18 p.m.
