The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time
and place.

CONSENT CALENDAR
Present: Commissioners Erlinda Duran, Marguerite S. Lopez,
Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz
Also present: Camille Diaz, Assistant City Manager; Kwok Tam,
Director of Public Works; Dan Grijalva, Recreation Manager; and
Armando Hegdahl, Records Technician
There were no speakers.
MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by
Commissioner Duran, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion
was unanimously approved.

The following minutes were approved as presented:
1) Regular meeting held September 7, 2011
RECREATION
MANAGER UPDATE
RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update:
MANAGER GRIJALVA
1) Sixteen attended the recent trip to the L.A. County Fair.
2) All classes continue as scheduled with none having been
cancelled.
3) Eleven have signed up to participate in flag football, with mostly
10, 11, and 12 year old participants.
4) Only five have been registered to participate in the munchkin
program.
5) One hundred thirty eight bus passes have been issued thus far.
6) The Halloween event will be held on October 30, from 4:00 p.m.
to 7:00 p.m. Prizes will be given away.
7) Staff is currently experiencing problems with the phone system at
the gym lobby.
8) He thanked the Public Works crew for removing a fallen tree near
the gym after the recent storm.
9) A pumpkin carving contest will be held on October 26.
10)A trip to Oak Glenn will be held on October 15.

11)A teen trip to Knott's Scary Farm has been scheduled for October
28.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo asked about the status of the piano classes, to
which Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that the classes are full.
The activity calendar will be sent out to residents soon. She also
asked about the Tiny Tots program, to which Recreation Manager
Grijalva advised that the program participation is at full capacity, with
two or three non-resident children being sponsored to participate.
There currently is no waiting list for the program.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Duran asked about the lights at the skate park, to
DURAN which Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that the lights are not
turned on since the park is open from dusk to dark.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz commended the Public Works staff for the great job they
are doing in maintaining the parks.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Zepeda asked about the performance of the new
ZEPEDA janitorial services company, to which Recreation Manager Grijalva
advised that they are performing well, though there are a few glitches
to work out.

VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo asked about the status of the budget, to which
Assistant City Manager Diaz advised that there has been no change
to the budget since the last update. She added that budget talks will
resume in the spring. Of interest to the City Council have been the
request to open the pool during Labor Day, seeking sponsorships to
hold a 4th of July Fireworks Show, and a contract for a new City
Manager which will be placed on the agenda for consideration at the
October 12 City Council meeting.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was
adjourned at 6:17 p.m.
