The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in special session at the above time
and place.

Present: Commissioners Erlinda Duran, Marguerite S. Lopez,
Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz
Also present: William Tam, Director of Public Works; Priscilla
Zepeda, Recreation Supervisor; and Armando Hegdahl, Records
Technician
There were no speakers.
MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by
Commissioner Duran, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion
was unanimously approved.

The following minutes were approved as presented:
1) Regular meeting held March 6, 2013.
RECREATION
MANAGER UPDATE
RECREATION Recreation Supervisor Zepeda presented the following update:
SUPERVISOR ZEPEDA
1) The Competition Cheerleaders were recognized at the last
Council meeting. They came in 1St place twice, 2nd place once,
and won the judge's award for last month's competition. The stunt
team also placed 1St 2nd and 3rd.
2) The yoga, cardio kick, and zumba classes are going strong.
3) Twenty-one attended the trip to San Juan Capistrano.
4) Twenty-four attended the trip to the Beauty and the Beast play.
5) Ten attended the teen trip to Disneyland.
6) Thirty-two attended the day camp trip today.
7) Thirty-five attended the trip to the movies.
8) The Dodgers/Giants baseball game was sold out.
9) Over 300 people attended the Easter Eggstravaganza held on
March 30. She thanked all volunteers and indicated that there
were no problems or concerns.
10)The schedules for the Music in the Park and Movies in the Park
were finalized.

11)Recreation staff is receiving training on the RecPro software.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Lopez asked whether the new software would help if
LOPEZ somebody were to lose their recreation card, to which Recreation
Supervisor Zepeda stated that staff can look up information in the
software to determine whether the card is active. Staff is hoping to
go live with the software by the beginning of summer.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo commended the recreation staff for a great job in
arranging the Easter Eggstravaganza. She thanked the volunteers
for all their efforts.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Zepeda asked about the Dodger/Angel game, to
ZEPEDA which Recreation Supervisor Zepeda advised that signups would
begin May 13 and that the tickets are available to anyone.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Lopez said she went to the game last night and had a
LOPEZ great time.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo asked about the status of the repairs to the pool
and the pool building, to which Director Tam advised that the work is
progressing as scheduled. The existing roof has been removed and
repairs are being made. The next big item is the fumigation. Staff is
scheduling the pool for replastering. The new boiler has been
ordered and should come within two weeks. The pool should be
ready for use by the 2nd or 3'd week in May. Staff is also working with
a landscape maintenance contractor to repair the uneven pavement
at the Skate Park. Work should begin within two weeks and will take
about 10 days to complete.
Responding to an additional question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Director
Tam advised that the trees at the Skate Park will be removed and
replanted. They will be maintained by city staff who will be trained so
that the trees do not cause uneven pavement again.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz said that the signs at the parks that prohibited playing
soccer on the field have been removed, to which Director Tam
advised that they would be replaced.
Chair Diaz also asked about coyote sightings, to which Director Tam
noted that the City Manager has retained an animal control company
and traps will be set to attempt to control the problem.
