VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Responding to a question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Manager
Grijalva advised that staff has been working more closely with the
Fire Department to prepare for this year's fireworks show due to the
fires that occurred at last year's show. The meetings were held in an
effort to avoid future fires.
Vice Chair Fraijo asked whether the area can be sprayed with fire
retardant material, to which Recreation Manager Grijalva advised
that the property belongs to the County and that it sometimes is
difficult to coordinate this type of thing with County staff.
DIRECTOR TAM Director Tam added that staff researched the option to use
chemicals, but those were not receptive to the County Flood Control
District.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo asked whether the pool has ever been heated, to
which Recreation Manager Grijalva advised that somebody will come
out tomorrow to tune up the pool heater. He added that the pool is
heated for about a week and the pool will be good for the rest of the
summer. Responding to several more questions, Recreation
Manager Grijalva explained how staff determines the amount of
meals to be ordered, stated that Amanda Orosco runs the volleyball
camp, that there are seven Summer Youth workers working in the
Recreation Department for the summer, and that he noticed Police
Officers patrolling during the Music in the Park concert.
Vice Chair Fraijo also asked about the status of the park re -design,
to which Director Tam indicated that staff presented the project to the
Council at its meeting of June 11, at which time the concept design,
which was approved by the Commission, was presented to the
Council. The Council then discussed the fountain and gazebo at the
park and expressed concern that there may be some value in
retaining the gazebo and eliminating the fountain. Staff was directed
to hold a joint Council/Commission meeting to discuss the park
plans. Vice Chair Fraijo stated that it would cost too much to re -do
the gazebo. She then thanked staff for its hard work in working with
the County Fire Department in arranging for the fireworks show.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz spoke very highly of the newly renovated Library. He said
that it fits the community well.
