The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time
and place.

Present: Commissioners Jason Hickman, Marguerite S. Lopez,
Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz
Also present: William Tam, Director of Public Works / City Engineer;
Delfina Osterheim, Recreation Clerk; and Armando Hegdahl,
Records Technician
There were no speakers.
MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by
Commissioner Lopez, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion
was unanimously approved.

The following minutes were approved as presented:
1) Regular meeting held February 1, 2017
RECREATION
DEPARTMENT UPDATE
RECREATION CLERK Recreation Clerk Osterheim presented the following update:
OSTERHEIM
1) Twenty-four patrons attended the February 3 trip to the Motown
Musical.
2) Twenty-three members of the Playbillers Club attended the
February 19 trip to the Circus Musical.
3) Fifteen patrons attended the February 25 trip to the Santa Monica
Pier and Promenade.
4) Bunco activities began this month.
5) Yoga, Zumba, Canvas Kids, and Painters Club have all started
again.
6) A family trip to San Juan Capistrano will be held on March 18.
PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT UPDATE
DIRECTOR TAM Director Tam presented the following update:

1) The Irwindale Avenue Resurfacing Project has been substantially
completed. Staff has worked aggressively on the project in order
to complete it before the weekend's 626 Golden Streets event.
The paving has been completed and the striping should be done
within the next couple of days.
COMMISSIONER Responding to a question by Commissioner Lopez, Director Tam
LOPEZ indicated that the lighting at the water fountain has not yet been
repaired, though staff has ordered new lights for it. The pump, on the
other hand, has already been repaired. Staff will work to have the
lights fixed within the next couple of weeks.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo asked about damage to other city facilities due to
the recent storms, to which Director Tam advised that no additional
damage has been reported, though he did note that the City Hall and
Chamber roofs are leaking, which will be addressed after the rainy
season ends. There are no leaks at the pool building, though the
picnic shelter is also leaking.
COMMISSIONER ITEMS
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo asked about the trip to Motown the Musical, to
which Recreation Clerk Osterheim indicated that this trip was open to
everyone.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Hickman asked about future city -sponsored trips to
HICKMAN musicals, to which Recreation Clerk Osterheim advised that a trip is
being planned to watch Jersey Boys in either May or June.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Responding to a question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Clerk
Osterheim advised that members of the Playbillers Club could go to
both city -sponsored trips and the club trips. She added that there are
currently about 20 members in the Playbillers Club. Additionally,
enrollment in the Playbillers Club begins around August, where
interested people have about three or four months to enroll. Fliers for
the program are mailed out to residents. The maximum number of
participants is limited to about 25.
As requested by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Clerk Osterheim
briefly discussed the arrangements for the upcoming Easter
program.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz noted necessary repairs at EI Nido Park, to which Director
Tam indicated that he would address his concerns.
