SEPTEMBER FIESTA
IMPROVEMENTS
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Responding to a question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation Manager
Grijalva advised that the Mexican Independence Festival that was
held last year was in lieu of the September Fiesta. This year, the
Council has mentioned the idea of hiring a mariachi band for
inclusion in the event.
COMMISSIONER Commissioner Lopez suggested perhaps inviting non-profit
LOPEZ organizations to sell items at the event, to which Recreation Manager
Grijalva stated that they may find it difficult to make a profit due to
low attendance.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo reminded that the event should be small scale due
to low turnouts, since many opt to attend the LA County Fair instead.
She suggested that staff ensure that there be enough food for all
attendees and that vendors may find it beneficial to attend to
advertise for their businesses.
COMMISSIONER ITEMS
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Responding to several questions from Vice Chair Fraijo, Recreation
Manager Grijalva indicated that: 1) no banners are hung over Arrow
Highway to advertise for the Music in the Park concerts, 2) as she
suggested, staff can gauge interest in re -implementing an Irwindale
Swim Team, and 3) National Night Out will be held on August 1st,
with a softball game between residents vs. Irwindale officers.
Vice Chair Fraijo thanked the Recreation and Public Works
Departments for their hard work in ensuring the success of the 4t" of
July activities. She also asked when the playground sand is raked, to
which Supervisor Rodriguez advised that Summer Youth workers
clean the area and look for sharp objects on Mondays.
