The Irwindale PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met in regular session at the above time
and place.
ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Jason Hickman, Marguerite S. Lopez,
Belen Zepeda; Vice Chair Paula Fraijo; Chair Dan Diaz
Also present: Dan Grijalva, Recreation Manager; and Armando
Hegdahl, Deputy City Clerk
SPONTANEOUS
COMMUNICATIONS There were no speakers.
CONSENT CALENDAR
MOTION A motion was made by Vice Chair Fraijo, seconded by
Commissioner Lopez, to approve the Consent Calendar. The motion
was unanimously approved.
ITEM NO. 1A MINUTES
MINUTES
The following minutes were approved as presented:
1) Regular meeting held July 5, 2017
RECREATION
DEPARTMENT UPDATE
RECREATION Recreation Manager Grijalva presented the following update:
MANAGER GRIJALVA
1) During the month of July, the participants of the Day Camp
program attended trips to the Santa Monica Pier, Raging Waters,
John's Incredible Pizza, and will attend a trip next week to Knott's
Soak City.
2) The Movies in the Park program will be ending after the next
showing.
3) There are two more concerts scheduled for the Music in the Park
concert series before it concludes.
4) The Summer Lunch program is also planned to finalize next
week.
5) Signups are being accepted for the Camp -Out trip this Friday.
6) Manager Grijalva also reported that he will be retiring this month
and thanked the Commission for its support throughout his
career.

PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT UPDATE There was no update.
COMMISSIONER ITEMS
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo stated that she enjoyed working with Manager
Grijalva and seeing him move up the city ranks. She spoke on his
many accomplishments as leader of the Recreation Department and
thanked him for his years of service and dedication.
CHAIR DIAZ Chair Diaz reflected on the years he has known Manager Grijalva
and chasing after him when he was a young boy.
VICE CHAIR FRAIJO Vice Chair Fraijo stated that several individuals have reported on
damaged sinks at the locker rooms and the potential risks they pose,
to which Manager Grijalva advised that the sinks have been repaired
numerous times by the Public Works Department, but that he will
check on them again.
Vice Chair Fraijo wondered whether Recreation Department funds
would be expended for said repairs to the sinks, to which Manager
Grijalva advised that funding has been allocated for maintenance.
Vice Chair Fraijo then asked about the pool, to which Manager
Grijalva advised that there have been no incidents or issues reported
associated with the pool.
Responding to a final question by Vice Chair Fraijo, Manager
Grijalva advised that he is training staff to take over his
responsibilities once he retires.
ADJOURNMENT There being n further business to conduct, the meeting was
adjourned at 08 p.m.
