AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IRWINDALE
AMENDING SECTION 2.04.050 OF THE CITY OF IRWINDALE
MUNICIPAL CODE TO UPDATE THE OCCASIONS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL REORGANIZATION
A. RECITALS
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 164 was adopted on May 18, 1965, thereby adding
Section 2104 to the Irwindale Municipal Code, establishing the occasions for City Council
Reorganization.
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 484 was adopted on February 10, 1994, thereby
amending section 2.04.050 of Chapter 2.04 of Title 2 of the Irwindale Municipal Code
pertaining to election of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore;
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 711 was adopted on March 8, 2017 directing that the
General Municipal Elections of the City of Irwindale be held on the first Tuesday after the
first Monday in November of even -numbered years, beginning in November 2018.
WHEREAS, it is now necessary for the Irwindale Municipal Code to be updated to
reflect these changes
WHEREAS, all legal prerequisites to the adoption of this ordinance have occurred.
B. ORDINANCE
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Irwindale does hereby ordain
as follows:
Section 1. The City Council finds that the above recitals are true and correct
and are incorporated herein by this reference.
Section 2. Section 2.04.050 of Chapter 2.04 of Title 2 of the Irwindale Municipal
Code is hereby amended and shall now read as follows (deleted text, if any, is shown in
tFi ethFOUgh; new text, if any, is shown in bold & italics:
2.04.056 Election of Mayor and Mayor Pro -Tempore
The City Council shall elect one of its members to be Mayor and one of its
members to be Mayor Pro -Tempore as specified below:
A. In even -numbered years, at the regular council meeting at which the canvass
of the results of the general municipal election shall be conducted;

B. In odd -numbered years, at the first regular meeting of the council held in Marekâ–º
November,
C. At such other times as a majority of the council shall so order.
Section 3. The City Council hereby authorizes and directs the Mayor and the
City Clerk to execute this Ordinance on behalf of the City of Irwindale forthwith upon its
adoption.
Section 4. The Chief Deputy City Clerk shall certify as to the passage of this
Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published and/or posted at the designated
locations in the City of Irwindale.
